Vegetable Garden Emptied

Day 16

We've been working on clearing out our garden.  It's kind of sad.

It was fun watching everything grow.  (Especially since we started most of it from seed!)  It's a bit sad to see it so empty though.  We still have work to do to get it cleaned up before winter.  We're thinking about rearranging the bricks a bit.

We've been doing a little planning for next year.  Less of this, more of that.  This should go here, that should go there.  Maybe we should write this down??

Even the flower bed is looking bare and sad.  I'm excited to see what pops up next year.  Most of what was planted in there was planted by the previous owners.

As sad as it is to see such an empty garden, we're so thankful for all we were able to grow in such a small space.  With the tomatoes I was able to roast and freeze some, make and can salsa, make a freeze pasta sauce, make pizza sauce, can some and use some in salads.  We have zucchini and squash in the freezer and were able to eat a lot fresh.  We had cucumbers and eggplant.  We had peas to munch on.  We had cantaloupe and watermelon.  We had 11 pumpkins in all and have already baked with some.  The kids will get to carve pumpkins this year and I have 6 sugar pumpkins to bake and freeze.  I won't have to buy canned pumpkin at all this fall!

Of course there were some fails too, but we'll just try again next year!

  6. That looks like it must have been a pretty good size garden to me. Definitely looks like Fall is coming with the leaves on the ground. You'll have all winter to plan that garden for next year.
