Quartzite, Arizona

I just spent close to an hour looking for even a single picture of Quartzite, Arizona.  I know we've driven through the town many times.  I thought for sure we had a picture or two, but I couldn't find one.  I did a Google search and found these:

On Quartzite's town web page it says, "The Rock Capital of the World".  I think they're right...there are rocks everywhere!  But it's not because of all the rocks you see forever in every direction.  It's because of the many gem and mineral shows.  Along with the gem and mineral shows there are swap meets that attract millions of people to the town each year.

We never drove through when anything was going on, so it always looked like a ghost town to me.  How the town could attract millions of people a year is beyond me.  It's hot, windy and, well, HOT.  Our favorite part was a stop at Dairy Queen or McDonalds for a cold drink or ice cream!

For more on the letter Q...visit Jenny Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday.  And if you've been to Quartzite and can explain the attraction...please do!  :)

  5. I think the lack of colour would get to me eventually if I lived in Quartzite. I'd have pots of bright red geraniums everywhere!
We also have these sort of towns in Outback Australia, but the red sandy soils we have seem to add rather than detract from the towns there to make them more stunning and unique in a harsh environment.
Thank you for introducing me to your 'the Rock Capital of the World', and your interesting 'Q' city through Alphabe-Thursday.

  6. Never been to Quartzite, but kudos for working two Q's into your post. Do they really still have Dairy Queens?

  7. It's quite possible I've passed through that town since I've been in Phoenix and Joshua Tree.
I love visiting this type of landscape, but am always happy to get home to GREEN!

    Quartzite!

I've gone to the rock show...I don't think it was really worth it.

I think it's even hotter there than here!

    Yikes!

Thanks for linking! This was Quite close to home for me!
